Why Do You Have Low Water Pressure In Your Home?

Call Mahon Plumbing when you notice your low water pressure, and we will figure out what is happening.

Low water pressure can ruin an evening pretty quickly. After a long day, there is nothing better than a relaxing shower. But then you realize you have low water pressure because the water feels gentle to the touch. You may wait a few minutes, thinking the water pressure will pick up enough for you to enjoy that shower. Then it never does. Call Mahon Plumbing when you notice your low water pressure, and we will figure out what is happening. Some other signs are slow-running water and if your washing machine takes a long time to complete a cycle. Structural issues with your plumbing, like cracked pipes or a broken water softener, must be repaired by professionals to ensure your plumbing remains in top shape. In the meantime, here are some reasons you may have low water pressure.

Your Water Softener Is Not Working Right

A water softener is a filtration system that removes materials that make hard water, like calcium and magnesium. If your water softener is working improperly, there will be a sudden increase or decrease in the water pressure. The difference in water pressure will be noticeable. When you turn on a faucet, the water may shoot out full force then slow to a trickle.

There May Be Cracked Or Leaking Pipes

Internally or externally cracked pipes will cause leaking and create low water pressure. If the pipes are underground, leaks and dips in water pressure can allow groundwater to seep into the pipes. Groundwater can introduce possibly harmful bacteria into your plumbing which can make you sick. Unlike a sewer line where you worry about waste entering the water table, a damaged water pipe can make you very sick and will require professional services to clean your plumbing. To avoid groundwater entering your water line, Mahon Plumbing uses modern tools to explore your piping. Our video camera services investigate pipes that seem unreachable.

The Main Shut-Off Valve Is Not Aligned Properly

Something you may be able to fix yourself is the main shut-off valve. Located where the main water pipe enters your house, the valve will have a knob to turn. Make sure the knob is twisted open all the way. If you are still experiencing low water pressure, contact our professionals to investigate.
