How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Water Heater

Water Heaters

Water heaters need to eventually be replaced. Be on the lookout for these warning signs.

Your water heater may have served you well in the time you have had it, and it may in fact be right and the perfect fit for you as well. However, a time will come when your water heater will be in need of replacing. Replacing your water heater can be a humongous pain to both you and your wallet, and you will not want to do it without a good reason. That is why you should be on the lookout for the following signs that it is time to replace water heaters.

Age

Age is an important indicator as to whether or not your water heater is in need of replacing. A water heater tends to last you somewhere between eight to twelve years. That means if your water heater is less than eight years old, you should consider having it repaired. After eight years though, if a problem arises, it will be time to start thinking about just purchasing a new water heater, especially if it is older than twelve years.

No Hot Water

If for some reason you find yourself without hot water, there is obviously an issue with your water heater then. A big reason behind this is due to sediment buildup. Sediment buildup is usually caused by minerals precipitating out of the water while it is being heated, which causes them to sit on the burner and decreasing its effectiveness.

Damage

Another reason you will need a new water heater is if there is damage done to it beyond repair. For example, if there are any leaks, you will most likely have to replace your water heater. You should frequently inspect your water heater for leaks, even if you are not having any issues with your water heater. A quick visual checkup of your water for signs of a leak should tell you whether or not you will be in need of a new water.

Expensive bills

Lastly, your hot water bill can tell you everything you need to know when it comes to buying a new water heater. An expensive bill will mean you will most likely want to immediately start looking into new options for your water heater situation. A newer, more energy efficient water heater should help bring the cost of your bill down heavily.
