Plumbing Problems You May Not Recognize

Plumbing

Not all plumbing issues are obvious. Sometimes, you have to dig a little deeper to find out what has gone wrong.

While plumbing is an essential aspect of your home, it’s also true that there are many different problems that can arise. Plumbing systems can be somewhat sensitive to changes and even if you’re unaware of it, you may have unintentionally caused some issues or simply aren’t aware that an issue exists. As a homeowner or renter, it’s important to be able to recognize issues before they worsen. Let’s take a look at some uncommon plumbing issues that you may not notice initially.

Clogged by Grease

When cooking dinner, some people have a tendency to toss their grease or oil right down the drain. It may seem like the quickest, easiest solution, but it can actually lead to clogged drains. Alternatively, let fats that solidify do so and then toss them in your garbage. If they don’t solidify, just put the liquids into a sealable bottle and throw that away.

Tree Roots

Most of us don’t consider trees to be a threat to our plumbing but it does happen at times. Over time, tree roots can start invading whatever is around it—and that includes pipes and water lines. Thankfully, there’s a solution: utilizing a rooter makes quick work of roots.

Old Water Heaters

Water heaters are reliable and few of us end up ever having an issue with ours. Eventually, there does come a time where you may need to repair or replace your old water heater. If you’re unsure of how to tell, it’s important to have a trained plumber check out your water heater every once in a while to make sure it’s all in working order.

Septic Issues

There are a lot of items you may think you can get away with just flushing down the toilet but can actually be pretty dangerous. This includes bleach and paint, two startlingly common items that end up getting flushed down toilets and pass by your septic tank. While it may seem like a convenient option, doing this could cause serious issues with your plumbing and it’s best to dispose of trash properly.
